track eight

kindergarten

There was a time, a long time ago,

When tiny people who looked like us.

Played on the swings, ran in the breeze, and didn’t know how to love.

They didn’t know how to read, especially the next chapters of their lives.

They weren’t concerned about what was to come,

They didn’t know how to say goodbye.

You make me feel like, I have the world again.

Like I'm not sure, but I'm safe in your embrace.

And I feel like I'm just playing,

Everytime I’m in this place.

Like when we were young, and we didn’t know,

What it felt like to have the world betray us.

You somehow make me feel like kindergarten.

I sit and watch, the wet cement,

The purple place where tiny hands create.

I wonder if, they know the storm that’s

Gonna change their fate.

And inside my mind, I deliberate, if I’m even supposed to understand,

Just how effortless you make me feel,

like I can do anything again.

And in my mind, there’s a universe,

Where we met when we were kids.

And we had each other,

And it was all we needed.

I had you, and you had me, and our

Comfort carried past kindergarten.

But that’s not how it works past age 3.
